Anyone can search the catalog without logging in. To place holds, see due dates, renew items and use other features, register with the catalog after you get or renew your Library Card. Learn how to get or renew a Library Card.

Here’s how to register with the catalog:

  1. Go to My APL.

To find this from the Library's homepage click the red My Account button. From the catalog click the red Log in / My APL button in the upper right.

  2. Enter your information. If you don't know your Password/PIN you can reset it online, call Customer Service at 512-974-7475 or use the Chat Now button on this page.
Screenshot of the Login screen, with note: Your barcode is your library card number, and your password is the same as your PIN.

  3. Click Log in. On the Welcome screen, select Continue to Account Setup.

  4. Confirm that your personal information is correct and click Continue.

  5. Create a unique username. Creating a username is required to register for the catalog, but you can still log in using your library card number if you prefer. To protect their privacy, children under 13 will combine an animal and a color to generate a username. Learn more about children’s usernames.
Note: If your username is taken, you will be prompted to choose another one.

Username guidelines are described in Bibliocommons Help:

"Your username must be unique, but otherwise you have a great deal of flexibility when you create a username. The name can be up to 24 characters long, and you can use any combination of letters and numbers, as well as underscores ( _ ). It cannot consist entirely of numbers, or use spaces or other non-alphanumeric characters. The best username is one that is easy for you to remember."

  6. Read the BiblioCommons Terms of Use. If you accept them, check the box then click Complete Account Setup.

  7. Check your email for the registration confirmation email and click the link it contains to verify your email address.

You’re done! You can now log into My APL with your username or your card number to place holds, renew items and use other catalog features.
