Is the item you want checked out or across town? Place a hold to get in line for the next available copy and to transfer the item to a library location of your choice.

Place a hold by phone

Call Ask a Librarian: 512-974-7400, Option 1. If the item is available and you want a same-day hold, call the location that has it. See all location phone numbers.
 

Place a hold online 

  1. Log in to My APL. If it's your first time, you need to register.
     
  2. Find the item you want in the catalog
     
  3. Click the green Place a Hold button.

  4. Choose a pickup location and click Confirm Hold
     

    If you don't get the option to choose a location, you have Single-Click Holds enabled. The hold will go to your preferred or "home" library. Learn how to change Single-Click Holds.

     

  5. When the item is ready, you will get an email. If you have not given us an email address, we will notify you by mail. These notifications are a courtesy; we are not responsible for misdirected mail or email. Learn how to confirm or change an email on your account.

    You can also check the status of your hold by logging into My APL: Holds.
