Yes, customer suggestions for titles that will enrich the Library’s collection are welcomed! Though the Library is unable to guarantee that a suggestion will be obtained, the opportunity for customers to share their interests is of great value. Customers with an active Austin Public Library card and registered online account may use the Suggest a Title form in MyAPL Dashboard to submit suggestions to the Library’s Collections team. A link to the form is also located at the bottom of the catalog and more information can be found in the Suggest Titles Guide.
For all suggestions, please note:
- The decision to purchase an item or specific format is based on the Library’s Materials Selection Policy, budget constraints, and availability from contracted vendors.
- A title may not be available for purchase in different formats due to vendor availability or the author’s or publisher’s decision to release it in specific formats (e.g. digital-only releases, or titles that are not issued in large print). Each collection format is distinct; availability of a title in eBook format does not ensure availability in print.
- Each account is limited to four suggestions each calendar month.
- You can monitor the status of a submitted suggestion in MyAPL Dashboard. Notifications will not be sent via email.
- The Collections team will typically review and provide a response within a three-week time frame. Suggestions for certain formats and languages may require additional time due to unique ordering logistics.
- You can cancel a suggestion if it has not yet been reviewed and replace it with a new suggestion.
- You can place a hold on a purchased title when it appears in the catalog as “On Order.” A hold will not automatically be placed for an approved suggestion.
Print books may be requested through Interlibrary Loan from other library systems if a copy is not purchased for the Library. Please see the Library’s Interlibrary Loan service for additional information. Other media may be available through the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) Interlibrary Loan service.
