If you are going out of town or just don't have the time, you can suspend or pause unavailable holds until a convenient time. Customers behind you will move up in line. When the pause period ends, you will return to the same place in line as before.
To pause holds, call Customer Service at (512) 974-7475 or do it online:
- Go to My APL: Holds.
- Log in if prompted.
- Check the box(es) to the left of the items you want to pause.
- Click Pause.
- Click the two calendar icons ( ) and choose the start and end dates for the pause period.
- Click Yes, pause holds. These holds will move to the On hold: Paused section of My Borrowing.
Once the pause period is over, your holds will automatically become active again. To un-pause them early, go to your holds and click Resume next to the item to immediately remove it from suspension.
If you don't see Resume, first click the 3 stacked dots:
Available holds cannot be paused. If you can't pick up an available hold for a physical item, cancel it to avoid the $1.00 unclaimed fine. Learn how to cancel a hold.
OverDrive holds can also be paused through the My APL account, or you can suspend them directly in OverDrive.
Please note, paused holds still count toward your normal maximum hold limits.
