If your OverDrive eBook does not have other people waiting for it (that is, there are no holds), the option to renew the book will appear in OverDrive 3 days before the item expires. If a title has a hold, you will instead see an option to Request again 3 days before an item is due to get placed at the back of the line.

You cannot renew OverDrive items through My APL / the main catalog, but you can from your OverDrive account.  Follow these steps to renew:

  1. Go to the OverDrive page and click Access Now.

  2. Click the red Sign in button in the top right (if you see My account instead, you are already signed in -- go to Step 4).

  3. If prompted, enter your Library Card number and password/PIN.

  4. Select My account then Loans.

  5. Locate the book. If it's at least 3 days before it expires and there are no holds, it will have a Renew option toward the bottom:

The menu for the book indicates that the loan expires in 24 hours. Among the menu, there is a repeat symbol with the option to renew the book.

After you renew the title, you'll see the new due date and options to open or download it.

  • If you downloaded the title to the Libby app on your device, you'll need to download it again to apply the new due date.
  • If you sent the title to Kindle, you'll need to return the item from your Amazon account, then send it to Kindle from your library again to apply the new due date.

If an item has holds, here's what it looks like in your OverDrive account:

Within the menu for a eBook that is expiring, if a title has holds on it, there is a repeat symbol with the option to "Request Again".

Titles you've requested again will appear on your Holds page, and you'll get an email when they're available to borrow.
