With an active Austin Public Library card, you can check out Chromebooks and Wi-Fi hotspots for three weeks from any of our locations. The devices are typically all in use, but you can place a hold on a Chromebook or hotspot and be notified when the device is available for pick up. Chromebooks and hotspots are held at the main Circulation Desk on the 2nd floor at Central Library and behind the desk at your branch location.

Place a hold on a Chromebook

  • Chromebooks have webcam capabilities.
  • Each Chromebook kit includes a laptop, power cord and laptop bag.
  • Return Chromebook to the circulation desk to prevent damage in the book drop.
  • Chromebook will be reset to factory settings when returned. No personal information is retained on the device.
  • Chromebooks are renewable, if there are no holds on the device, fines are $25 or under and has not reached the renewal limit of twice per checkout.
  • There is a limit of one Chromebook on an account at a time.

Place a hold on a Wi-Fi hotspot

Wi-Fi hotspots allow portable, wireless access to the internet. You can use a hotspot at home, public spaces, or anywhere that free internet access is not available.

  • Each hotspot kit includes a hotspot device, charging cord, instructions and hard case.
  • Hotspots are not renewable
  • There is a limit of one hotspot on an account at a time.
