Features of the Central Library parking garage:

  • two levels of underground parking
  • 140 public parking spaces
  • 7 ADA Handicapped Parking spaces near the garage entrance and elevators into the library
  • 8 Electric Vehicle spaces in level P1
  • entrance to the garage on West Avenue
  • maximum vehicle height of 7 feet
  • parking garage opens at 8:30 AM
  • parking is not validated
  • payment kiosk in the garage accepts credit cards or debit cards that can be used as credit cards – it will not accept debit-only cards.
  • you can also pay with cash in the garage; however, it provides change in the form of dollar coins only.

The prices are as follows:

  • Up to 1 hour – Free
  • Over 1 hour to 2 hours – $5
  • Over 2 hours to 4 hours – $9
  • Over 4 hours to 7 hours – $11
  • Over 7 hours to 10 hours – $13
  • Over 10 hours to 12 hours – $15
  • Over 12 hours – $30

After the daily maximum of $30 has been reached, the meter resets for the next day and begins accruing fees again according to the fee structure listed above.

There is a payment kiosk on the 2nd floor that accepts credit card payments only.

The nearby Gables Garage (located on Electric Drive just west of Walter Seaholm Drive) and City Hall Garage (entrance located on Guadalupe Street between West 2nd Street and West Cesar Chavez Street) do not give free time but otherwise have comparable rates.

Street Parking

There is metered street parking on nearby streets and in a small lot on Cesar Chavez Street across from the Library. View parking rates as well as parking regulations. Meters are enforced:

Monday–Tuesday: 8 AM–6 PM
Wednesday–Friday: 8 AM–Midnight
Saturday: 11 AM–Midnight
Sunday: Not enforced (Street parking is free)

Electric Vehicle Parking

The 8 Electric Vehicle spaces on level P1 have Level 2 charging ports. Level 2 charging is best when you have time to charge slowly over a couple of hours. The Austin Energy Plug-In EVerywhere network manages these Level 2 charging ports and charges $0.09 per kWh, which comes to about a penny per minute.

Keep in mind electric vehicle spaces are also available at other branches.
