The Austin Public Library is funded through the City of Austin's annual budget. Each year’s budget may be viewed on the city’s budget documents page.

The library is funded through the city’s General Fund. General Fund money comes primarily from property and sales taxes (for its Operating Budget) and from bonds and grants (for its Capital Budget). The Operating Budget is used for personnel and operating costs, whereas the Capital Budget is used for facility and infrastructure improvements.

Note: Property taxes paid to Travis County, rather than to the City of Austin, do not become part of the Austin Public Library's budget.
