In accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, children under age 13 are not allowed to display their real names, create their own usernames or enter comments in the Library's online catalog. They also cannot send or receive messages from other members. Children can add star ratings, age suitability and similar titles, and create lists using pre-defined titles.

At the end of the month in which a child turns 13, the account will automatically be updated with the same privileges and features as an adult account.
