We have hundreds of travel guide eBooks, including from popular travel publishers. Most can be downloaded to a device but others require a constant internet connection or downloading PDFs chapter by chapter.

eBook collections
that have travel guides include:

OverDrive

  • books can be downloaded to the OverDrive app
  • has a wide selection from well-known publishers (Fodor's, Lonely Planet, Rough Guides and Frommer's)
  • the number of copies is limited

hoopla

  • books can be downloaded to the hoopla app
  • has a fair selection from lesser known publishers
  • has unlimited copies

Gale Virtual Reference Library

  • ‚Äča constant internet connection is required. PDF chapters can be downloaded for offline viewing, but not the entire book at once; getting it all can be time consuming
  • has a fair selection from DK Eyewitness Travel, some Rough Guides
  • has unlimited copies

Go to the individual collections above to search for eBooks, or search them all at once using the catalog. Here's how:

  1. In the search box in the upper right of the Library's website, type in your destination (country, continent, region or major city) plus guide:

"Peru guide" is entered in the search box.

A single search will not capture all relevant guides. In this example, you might also try Peru guidebook, Peru travel or simply Peru. Each will give you different results. Searching for the place alone will return the most items, but many will not be travel-themed books.

  2. On the left of your results, click Format and check the box by eBook to limit your results to eBooks. If you don't see these options, first click Filter these results.

  3. Click the titles to learn more about the books. Here's how to see at a glance what collection the book is from:

A Lonely Planet Peru book is listed as EBOOK OVERDRIVE, with the note: "Download this entire book onto your device using the OverDrive app. After downloading it, you do not need the internet." Another Peru book is listed as ONLINE, with the note: "To view this book, an internet connection is required at all times unless you download PDFs chapter by chapter."
