The Austin Public Library no longer has fines for materials returned or renewed past the due date. This went into effect on February 28, 2022 after a resolution passed by City Council.

Although APL does not charge late fees, customers are still responsible for items they borrow. After an item is 28 days overdue, it is deemed "lost" and the borrower will be billed for the cost of replacement. Returning the item will void this bill.

There are never overdue fines with our Digital Resources, including OverDrive, hoopla and CloudLibrary. When the item is due, it will automatically expire from your account.

A $1.00 charge for neglecting to pick up a hold (or cancel it) remains in effect.
